THE Perkin Warbeck pub in Taunton is closing for almost three months for a £1.4 million redevelopment.

Owner Wetherpoon is relocating the existing front on East Street to provide a covered undercroft with seating.

It is also creating an open-air roof terrace cum beer garden over the existing pavement cafe at the rear, which will involve demolishing part of the upper floor.

And it will also construct an additional side rear terrace and refurbish the pub, which has been in the town for 20 years.

Last orders will be called at 4pm on Saturday (July 16) and the Perkin will re-open on Tuesday, October 3.

A company spokesman said the redevelopment will create a number of new jobs and enhance the visual appearance of the building in the shadow of St Mary Magdalene Church.

He added that there would be no live music on either of the new terraces.
