POLICE in Avon and Somerset are urging people to make life as difficult as possible for would-be burglars.

The warning comes after 25 people in the force area were burgled in the past week after leaving a door or a window open.

After it emerged 11 burglars got in through open or unlocked windows, a force spokesman said on Facebook: "We know the weather's a little warmer at the moment ☀️ And you will understandably have windows open over the summer.

"But please double check you've closed them all before you go out (especially before you go on holiday)."

And gone are the days when you could apparently leave your door unlocked.

A total of 14 burglars got into houses through an unlocked door in Avon and Somerset in the week.

The spokesman added: "If you're in the back garden or the bathroom, why make it easy for opportunistic burglars by leaving your front door unlocked? ☹️🚪🗝

"And if you're going on holiday, make sure all doors are secure. We know burglars will often try the back door as it's more hidden from the view of neighbours."
