A DOZEN pieces of Bridgwater Carnival history are set to go under the hammer to raise money for charity.

Volunteers at the Labrador Rescue Trust are selling a collection of old pictures of Bridgwater Carnival which date back to the 1930s.

Sheila Pratt, a volunteer at the charity’s shop in Wye Avenue, Bridgwater, said the historic images have been collecting dust since they were donated a few years ago.

“They were given to us about three years ago by the wife of a local resident who died and they really do tell a story,” she said.

“We have more than a dozen pictures of Bridgwater Carnival dating back to the 1930’s and the 1950’s and they are interesting to look at.

“They are very unique and we completely forgot that we had them until recently when we decided to auction them off to raise money for the charity.

“They will be sold to the highest bidder at a collectors auction on August 16 and I really do hope they go to a nice owner as they are unique pieces and show some of Bridgwater’s history.

“We don’t know how much the pictures are worth but we hope they fetch a good sum of money as it will really benefit the charity.”

The pictures will be on sale at Tamlyns Auction Rooms on Market Street in Bridgwater at the collectors auction on August 16.

The auction starts at 10am.
