Wellington AFC 2, Buckland Athletic 1

WELLINGTON gave their survival bid an unexpected boost by claiming three points against high-flying Buckland Athletic.

With several key players unavailable, young Connor Pengelly stepped forward with both goals to down their fifth-placed visitors.

He headed the home side into the lead on eight minutes, and followed it with a 25-yard strike in the 17th minute.

Buckland pulled one back through Dave Lewington, but with Sam Towler impressing in the hosts' midfield, the Tangerines held on for their best result of the season.

The result takes them up to 16th, six points clear of the bottom two, and this coming Saturday they are at home to third-placed Bradford Town (ko 3pm).
