WELLINGTON was full of people enjoying an eventful day out on Sunday.

The annual Street Fair from Wellington Carnival took place, bringing thousands of people to the town.

This year's highlights included a fly-by of three fighter planes, a walking dinosaur, and an Elvis impersonator.

Carnival chairman, Dave Rylatt, said: "I was astounded at the diverse range of goods on offer from traders at this years' fair.

"The free entertainment provided by local groups was absolutely outstanding, there is so much talent evident on our doorstep.

"A couple of highlights from my perspective were for Nigel Phillips and his walking dinosaur, and of course the resurrected Elvis who wowed the crowds in South Street again. "While it was a busy day for the stallholders, it was lovely to see local businesses that opened on the day to be seen to be doing a roaring trade - I popped into Rule 7 and the Green Dragon a couple of times, there were queues 10 deep at the bars.

"The small but very loyal bunch of volunteers who help us should be commended for their efforts for what was a very long day, they started at 4.30am, and we finally managed to open roads back to normality by 6pm, with another couple of hours clearing up."

The event, which is ran entirely by volunteers, is the main fund raiser for Wellington Carnival which takes place on September 29.

The volunteers estimate they will have raised around £2,500 which will hopefully cover the insurance costs for this year.
