A 10KM challenge using the natural obstacles of Exmoor is set to take place next month.

The Man v. Moor event will be held from the Pinkery Centre, near Simonsbath, on July 14.

The run, organised by Minehead-based Channel Events, sees brave entrants face a gruelling trek across the moor.

Channel Events says the route has been designed to challenge you and push you to your limits, though anyone who can manage a 10km can take part.

Channel describes the route on its website: "Bill’s Hill introduces you to your legs and lungs before a scramble over the Pinkery Pinnacles and the technical Short Combe Stumble.

"A steady climb takes you from Deep Joy to Deep Bog before topping out on Chains Barrow.

"A fast and exciting technical downhill through Long Chain Gut brings you to the Hoaroak Hiatus – a steady section of good trail where you can absorb your stunning surroundings.

"Exmoor’s breath-taking character is defined by the next section as you climb to Benjamy’s Ditch – views across the Bristol Channel to one side and remote wilderness to the other.

"The Ruckham Reaper takes your mind off it with a full body scramble back up onto the highest moor – and a ride on The Magic Carpet – before the Dash, Splash and Thrash across Pinkery Pond.

"The Total Blackout obstacle takes you into the last section, Breakneck Combe, before the finish line comes into sight."

The event has been compared to challenges such as Tough Mudder, but it's a more nature-based and cheaper experience.

EXCITED: Dan Brice, from Channel Events

Dan Brice, operations director at Channel, said: "The reason why I set up this event is so people can come out, on their own or with their mates, and take on the moor.

"Tough Mudder and those other events are fantastic, but we didn't want to be building stuff like that here, we wanted to showcase what Exmoor National Park has to offer. It's all here naturally, you don't need to build anything."

The events company prides itself on leaving no mark on the moor.

Events have capped numbers of participants so the environment doesn't suffer.

Mr Brice added: "When the event is over, we take everything away with us, the marking arrows and taping, and it's back to how it was before."

The race costs £35 to enter, of £55 for the 'full package' which includes accommodation.
