THE Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment has received a £2,000 boost this week following a donation for a Taunton jewellery maker.
Margaret Harper of Sparklers raised the huge sum by selling jewellery made from fused Dichroic glass at Taunton Flower Show and small crafts shows.
Earlier in the year she presented the Gazette-backed charity with £1,200.
Mrs Harper donated the cheque to SURE representatives and two new oncologists at Musgrove Park Hospital.
Dr John Graham joined the Taunton NHS Trust in July this year, he is a lead oncology consultant who specialises in gynaecology, breast and urilogy cancers.
In addition he is to lead clinical guidelines within radiotherapy and chemotherapy services and building the oncology medical team in readiness for the opening of the new Somerset haematology centre.
Petra Jankowska joined Musgrove last month. She is the second oncology consultant to be appointed and specialises in head and neck, lung and gynaecology cancers.
Mrs Harper is hoping to raise yet more money for SURE. Anyone interested in buying jewellery or her attending a craft fayre can call 01823-481099.
SURE bingo will be taking place on Friday, October 12 at Donyatt Bowls Club and the next night (Saturday, October 13) at Creech St Michael Village Hall. Eyes down for both at 7.30pm.
Due to the postal strike now gift aid donations have been received this week, but we're hopeful of a bumper bag next week.
