FARMERS will gather at Taunton's historical livestock market for the last time on January 19 as the curtain comes down on a tradition dating back over 1,100 years.

After some hold ups the market will now be moving to a new site at North Petherton following the construction of a one-stop agricultural centre - The Sedgemoor Auction Centre.

The centre near junction 24 of the M5 and will replace the current sites in Taunton and Highbridge, ending years of traffic congestion for both towns.

Taunton Market managing partner Robert Venner said: "January 21 is now the official date for the new market at Sedgmoor Auction Centre, which bodes well for exciting times. I look forward to many farmers joining in and making the new market a great success."
