A GROUP founded at Wimbleball Lake to provide fishing and support for people who have had or have breast cancer has celebrated its 14th anniversary.

They gathered at the location earlier this month to mark the occasion and members and friends.

Members of South West Fishing For Life, which has 11 groups across the country, have found it hard to get together over the past couple of years due to the pandemic.

A spokesperson said: "The organisation has a small group of dedicated trustees who oversee all the groups which have their own lead coach and qualified coaches who assist at the monthly gatherings.

"All the days are free to members and all the coaches and volunteers give their time.

"Small grants are applied for and help with running costs as some of the groups meet at private fisheries."

Sessions are provided free of charge, thanks to the help of South West Lakes Trust, Bristol Waters, fisheries and small grants from local authorities.

Fundraising is also carried out done by a committed group of volunteers at Wimbleball, where the head office is located.

The spokesperson added: "As well as learning to fly fish, knot tying, entomology, fly tying and conservation is all included in the programme and each session is concluded with refreshments.

"Fly fishing not only provides gentle relaxing exercise, but in this wonderful atmosphere refreshes the soul as well.

"New friendships are made with like-minded people and it is a time to relax and have some special me time. Families and partners are welcome to come along and support but the fishing is just for the members."
