A TAUNTON pub is currently covered in scaffolding as workers carry out a £400,000 refurbishment.

The Shepherds Rest, in Galmington Road, is temporarily closed during the work.

The pub will reopen on Thursday, September 8 at midday.

The previous landlord at the Greene King pub, John Mills and his wife Mya, have left following 10 years there, with a new landlord taking over.

Kitchen manager Simon Peacock said: "The pub is heart of the community and number 3 on trip advisor for food.

"We been shut for six weeks and will be reopening on September 8 at midday where our oldest local, Dave, aged 82, will be cutting the ribbon."
