AN auction centre in Taunton is being moved to North Petherton.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s antiques team is relocating to new premises at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, at Junction 24.

The venue is already home to the monthly antiques and interiors sales and will now host the full calendar of antique auctions.

It is a strategic move, which will benefit buyers and sellers alike.

The location is handily placed beside the M5 and just off the A38 making it easier for clients to access the antiques department.

It is already home to GTH’s livestock centre and farm sales departments.

Tom Mellor, partner in charge of the department, said: “This move represents a fresh look for the GTH Antiques Department, with a new location, name and branding.

"Experts will follow with the move, ensuring that specialist, in-depth knowledge of jewellery, gold, watches, collectable items and more will be available at the Somerset Auction Rooms, based at Sedgemoor Auction Centre.

"This will well and truly provide a ‘one stop shop’ for any item that can be put under the hammer.

"With auctions coming thick and fast in the 2024 sales calendar, an auction will never be too far around the corner.

"This is an exciting development which will put the department in an exceptionally convenient and accessible location.”

The move is scheduled to take place in December and the first jewellery and collectors sales will be diarised thereafter.

The antiques and interiors general sale will run twice a month from January 2024 and will incorporate antiques and interior items. This will offer buyers fantastic opportunities to bag a bargain and sellers a convenient way to sell their items.

The switch from The Octagon Salerooms, in East Reach, Taunton, will also see a change of name for the long-established antiques department, but the experienced team will continue to offer the expertise long-standing and new clients have come to rely on.

Now renamed the Somerset Auction Rooms to reflect its wider reach it will host its first event in January, which promises to be a bumper entry.

There will still be the opportunity for would-be buyers to bid online via the-saleroom.com platform, at both the jewellery and collectors sales.
