A NEW book detailing the lives and work of legendary Somerset women has been published.

Released on November 20, Unsung Women in Somerset by Helen Pugh charters the lives of real-life women who lived in the region from pre-Roman to modern times.

Through short stories and historical notes, readers can learn more about a range of figures from the past, including an African princess, a woman who had two funerals, a Yatton churchwarden, and even a woman who voted before it was legal.

Author Helen grew up in Chilcompton before going to a secondary school in Bath. She attended the University of Bristol before spending eight years living abroad.

In 2018, she returned to Somerset and went to live in Shepton Mallet with her family before moving to Midsomer Norton.
