A MAN has been arrested and then released on conditional bail after two people were injured in an assault in Frome.

The incident happened in Cork Street on Saturday, February 11, when a woman was punched multiple times after an argument with a man near Westway Cinema.

A man in his 50s, who intervened and called the police, was also “punched repeatedly by the suspect”.

Police officers are appealing for a young man who they believe filmed the incident but left the scene before officers attended.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “Officers are seeking a witness who saw an assault of a man and woman in Frome earlier this month.

“One person has been arrested in connection with the incident which happened in Cork Street between 1.45pm-2.15pm on Sunday, February 11.

“Officers are appealing for a young man who they believe filmed the incident but left the scene before officers attended.

“At the time of the incident, another man called police after witnessing an argument between a man and a woman near Westway Cinema in Frome.

“The caller, in his 50s, intervened when he saw the man throw the woman, in her 30s, to the floor and punch her multiple times.

“The caller was then also assaulted and punched repeatedly by the suspect who then fled the scene in a black BMW saloon.

“The car travelled down Cork Street and into Bath Street before disappearing from sight.

“The suspect is described by the victims as being around 6ft tall, of medium build, with short, shaved dark hair and wearing dark trousers and a dark top.

“A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on conditional bail.

“The two victims sustained minor injuries and soreness after the assault but did not require hospital or medical treatment.
