POLICE are investigating after a medical incident took place at Quantock Point to Point on Saturday (March 9).

During the event at Cothelstone, near Bishop's Lydeard, an ambulance was called to deal with two teenage boys around 3pm, and one patient was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital.

And an 18-year-old man was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation, but has since been released on bail.

The final race of the day had to be abandoned because there were no ambulances available, as the ones on site were dealing with another incident.

A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police said: “We’re investigating an incident in Cothelstone in which two teenage boys fell ill and needed hospital treatment.

“The incident happened on the afternoon of Saturday 9 March and was reported to police the following day.

“Both boys, who are aged 16, have been discharged from hospital and further tests are being carried out to establish what led to them becoming ill.

“As part of our ongoing investigation, an 18-year-old man has been arrested and subsequently released on conditional bail so further enquiries can take place.”

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) added: “We were called at 15:03hrs on Saturday 9 March to an incident near Bishop’s Lydeard.

"We sent a double-crewed land ambulance and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital.”
