THE Red Arrows are expected overhead of Vivary Park, on July 6 this year again, when Somerset Armed Forces Day gets into full swing.

A day of free fun and celebration of the Armed Forces across the globe.

They will not be the only thing to look forward to in the sky either, as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be appearing too.

The Flight operates six Spitfires, two Hurricanes, a Lancaster, a C47 Dakota, and two Chipmunk Aircraft, flown by regular RAF Aircrew.

They were formed in July 1957 at RAF Biggin Hill, to maintain these priceless planes in airworthy condition to commemorate those who have fallen in the service of this country.

Also to promote the modern-day Air Force and to inspire future generations. A stirring sight and sound to experience.

The hotly contested Uniformed Cadets Drill Competition will also take place in the main arena, a battle for the honours of the day amongst the Cadets, our servicemen, and women of tomorrow.

Continuing the historical Forces theme, you can see living history in action during the day with The Crown Forces 1776, who will be bringing life as a British Redcoat in the late 18th Century to the main arena with their display of musket and cannon firing.

Always a spectacular event, the military re-enactors who portray the British Forces at the start of the American War of Independence are all camped out onsite so you can visit them to see exactly what conditions were like for our soldiers then.

The Coldstream Guards, The Light Infantry, and the Grenadier Guards are all represented, as they were in 1776, they operate as the Flank Companies, many of whom were specialised Soldiers and the predecessor to the more modern Rifle Regiments.

Not forgetting the fast and furious display by the Squibb Freestyle Motocross Stunt Team, where you can see some gravity-defying jumps, stunts, and tricks by the team set up and featuring Jamie Squibb, three times British Motocross Champion.

They bring a mobile ramp and deliver a high-octane aerial performance as well as a ground display.

This promises to be a real spectacle in a wonderful free day out for all the family.

Put the date in your diary, Saturday, July 6, 10am to 6pm in Vivary Park, Taunton.
