THE deadline for the Wellington Community Awards nominations has been extended until the end of May.

Councillors on the panel decided to do so to allow more groups and people to be nominated in the awards’ second edition.

A Wellington Town Council spokesperson said: “Due to only having a small number of entries for the 2024 awards, councillors on the Community Awards panel have decided to extend the deadline for nominations until the end of May to allow for more people, groups, and businesses to be nominated.

The awards launched last year and have four categories:

• Civic Award - An individual who has worked for the benefit of the Wellington community

• Youth Award - An individual aged 21 or under who has worked for the benefit of the Wellington community

• Business Award - A business which has engaged with the community for the benefit of the town

• Community Award - A community group or organisation which has brought a benefit to the Wellington community Current serving Councillors and previous award winners are not eligible to receive an award and will not be considered by the panel.
