FIRE crews from Taunton, Bridgwater and Wellington rushed to respond to reports of a combine harvester alight in a field near [[Wellington]].

Shortly before 7.30pm on Tuesday (July 29), Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received multiple reports of a blaze in the Langford Budville area.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene, along with a water bower and once there, fire crews confirmed the fire had spread to the field.

Throughout the incident crews used three breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one fog spike, one thermal image camera, beaters and a triple Extension Ladder and eventually the flames were fully extinguished.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the combine harvester was 100 per cent damaged by the blaze.

They said the incident was helped by the farmer creating a fire break in the field to prevent the fire spreading further.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
