TAUNTON Deane Male Voice Choir took part in the Festival of Brass and Voices at London’s Royal Albert Hall to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

Members joined 1,500 singers from choirs across the country supporting the Rastrick and Grimethorpe bands under musical director William Relton.

The opening featured the bands playing Strike Up The Band and the choir sand With A Voice of Singing, which set the tone for an outstanding concert.

The bands then played Colonel Bogey with the choir whistling enthusiastically along!

The male voice choir then sang Gloria by Mozart and Schubert’s Night, which was unaccompanied and quite spellbinding. The first half closed with a superb rendition of music when Soft Voices Die by the Ladies and an inspirational performance of Rule Britannia by the choirs, band, organ and audience.

The Fochabers Fiddlers from Scotland provided the interval entertainment and their performance completely enraptured the audience.

The second half commenced with the Hallelujah chorus by the choirs and band and Cross The Wide Missouri by the ladies.

Probably the hit of the night was the bands’ rendition of Cornet Carillon and Buglers’ Holiday.

The choirs then gave a rousing performance of The Anvil Chorus.

The programme ended with an emotional rendition of Deep Harmony, Morte Criste and a rapturous performance of Pomp and Circumstance No 1 by everybody.

A wonderful evening is expected to raise around £100,000 for this vital charity
