TV presenter Judy Finnigan has suggested sprinkling anti-diarrhoea tablets around Chard in a bid to clear up the town's starling problem.

The comment was made live on Channel 4's Richard and Judy show on Thursday, following a tongue-in-cheek report into Chard's awesome but messy starling display.

The report, which was filmed last Monday and broadcast on Thursday, showed Wiltshire firm Wingaway scaring away the birds using a loudhailer.

It ended with local children dancing into the sunset as the reporter left "a very happy town".

Back in the studio, even Richard Madeley cringed with embarrassment as his wife, Judy, suggested anti-diarrhoea tablets might help.

Meanwhile, the BBC's natural history unit, based in Bristol, is hoping to film the display as part of a major new series involving Alan Titchmarsh due to be broadcast at the end of 2007.

With the starlings still dropping tons of bird mess on Chard every day, the News has teamed up with car care experts Armor All to help beleaguered motorists.

The News is giving away 50 bottles of Armor All car wash gel, worth £3.99 each, in return for a coupon printed in this week's paper.

The bottles are being given away from our office at 3a Fore Street on a first come, first served basis, so make sure you get yours quick!

And a further 70 bottles are also being given away free at Servu store A1 AutoPoint at 24 Fore Street, Chard.

An Armor All spokesman said: "Reports of 500,000 starlings taking up home in Chard has got residents running for cover, and with the average starling weighing in at 3oz, but eating up to half its body weight a day, the resultant mess means a chaotic clean-up for local motorists.

"This is a labour-saving solution to destroying the droppings before they destroy the car!"
