A COMPANY that employs about 250 people in the Taunton and Bridgwater area is in takeover talks with a German firm.

Langdon Industries, at Walford Cross, is a leading temperature-controlled logistics provider with a fleet of 150 lorries.

The firm has attracted the interest of many larger groups but its directors have held out for a deal which looks like it will safeguard the future of jobs and facilities at the site.

The company is in talks with Nagel Logistics about a possible phased take over.

Managing director Mike Donoghue told the Somerset County Gazette: "We've agreed to progress matters further as it was the best approach we have had in terms of shareholders and staff.

"Nagel is looking to expand in the UK and Ire-land, and it would be a phased purchase over five years if it is agreed. After that they would then purchase the remaining shares.

"None of us is getting any younger so it's about handing over to the next generation."

Mr Donoghue added that any deal would take about three months to finalise.

Nagel has about 2,500 vehicles and much of its business is on mainland Europe.
