SOUTH African Jamie Bryant has quit Somerset to join Derbyshire on a two-year contract.

Somerset freed Bryant to talk to other counties at the end of a season in which he scored only 483 runs in the Championship at an average of only 24.15.

He began his career at Somerset with an unbeaten 109 against Loughborough UCCE but managed only two half-centuries in the Championship during the summer.

Bryant, who is classified as a non-overseas player through his British parentage, has been in better form for Eastern Province this winter.

He played in all five first-class games for the stage and averaged 43.25.
