Falmouth lifeboat crews were celebrating this week after being handed a cheque for £10,500 from the fund raising efforts of a Restronguet pub.

The clients, landlords and numerous volunteers have worked hard over the last year to raise the impressive figure, organising special events including a summer fete and running a second hand shop near the pub.

Steve Bellman, who runs the Pandora alongside licensee John Milan said: "We were really pleased with the figure, but it is really down to the volunteers who man the shop and help with the fund raising and the clients of the pub themselves."

The pair had carried on the tradition of raising money for the RNLI from the previous landlord and have increased their figure every year.

"The pub has always been part of the boating scene in Falmouth, the life boat is close to our hearts for this reason," said Mr Bellman.

The managers gave special thanks to Barbara and Tony Clark who run the pub's charity shop voluntarily, and too all others who pitched in.

Falmouth lifeboat actually moored alongside the pub during the summer for the inn's fun day which also had stalls, activities in the car park and a fly-by by a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.

A similar event is planned for next year according to Mr Bellman.

Falmouth lifeboat coxswain Alan Barnes said: "I think this is a fantastic effort from everyone involved and it's really appreciated. Without efforts like these from the people at the Pandora the RNLI wouldn't exist."

The money will go towards the continued running of the lifeboats and station at Falmouth. The RNLI receives no government money with the £107 million needed nation-wide coming fund raising efforts.

Last year the Falmouth lifeboat launched 62 times to aid mariners in distress.
