ZANE McCormack, who quit Taunton last season to play semi-pro rugby for Norwich, has rejoined the promoted Somerset club

The tough New Zealander plays mostly in the second row although coach Jeff Davies says he is "pretty versatile."

"He is a typical New Zealander - very tough and competitive and we're glad to have him back," said Davies yesterday.

The Taunton coach has also disclosed their top try scorer Martin Lacey has decided to stay with the club despite the chance to join other clubs.

Prop Adam Reuben, a doctor at Musgrove Park Hospital, has also confirmed he plans to continue playing for the club when duties allow him.

Taunton will play in South West 2 (W) next season and Davies believes the club's first aim is to try for a mid or upper table position.

"We must get off to a good start because rugby at this level is improving all the time," added Davies.

"I believe we have a chance next season because we beat Dings Crusaders in the Intermediate Cup last season and they went on to win South West 2.

"Things, however, are changing all the time. There are six different teams in South West 2 who were not there when we played in it two seasons ago.

Players will be reporting back for pre-season training on their new ground at Hyde Lane, Bathpool, on July 16 - only nine weeks after the last match of the season in which they beat Withycombe in a Western Counties League play-off.
