Toolstation League, Division 1: Bradford Town 4, Minehead 1.

MINEHEAD ended their season with a second consecutive 4-1 defeat in Wiltshire.

However, as in the majority of their matches over the past few months, they matched their opponents for long periods.

Guy Burns, who caused the home defence problems all afternoon, had a shot deflected wide after only two minutes and, from the corner Jamie Dingle’s volley was saved keeper Lewis Porter.

With their first serious attack of the match the home side took the lead, with Ricky Trott heading home a deep cross which had found him unmarked.

Five minutes later, with Minehead appealing for a foul on Chris Yeates, the experienced Jerad O’Prey converted a firm volley after a goalmouth melee.

Minehead gradually hauled themselves back into contention and after half an hour Chris Yeates’ header from a corner found it’s way over the line through a crowded goalmouth.

With five minutes of the half remaining, Burns beat countless defenders on a run which started deep inside his own half but saw his shot from the edge of the box saved by the goalkeeper’s outstretched leg.

The second half soon saw any claim to the points drift away when, after Alex Sprake had made a superb save from Trott, Mike Mullen’s challenge on Matty Cooper was deemed a foul and Dave Percival scored from the spot.

Diminutive striker Jamie Jordan completed the scoring when he nonchalantly flicked a corner home at the near post.

Notable moments that graced the final quarter of the match were a superb move which ended with a clever one-two between Yeates and Burns with the latter’s shot being held by Porter, and Dingle shooting just wide after a good turn.
