A Taunton church hopes to raise £75,000 to restore its rare, original Victorian organ.

The organ at Holy Trinity Church has been played by international artists and at public concerts.

Jean Dalzell, a member of the organ restoration committee, said: “This is a very fine example of Victorian organ building with its original technical tracker action still working.

“Few organs are in this state, most having been converted to electrical operation.

“Holy Trinity Church needs £75,000 – many projects of this kind need £225,000, so it’s quite modest in comparison.”

The church is hosting an open day on May 21, a spring fête on May 22, from 2pm, and a ‘sung Eucharist’ and address at 10am on May 23, followed by a choral evensong and benediction at 6.30pm.

Donations, made out to HTC PCC Organ Fund, can be sent to: The Organ Restoration Committee, Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Street, Taunton, TA1 3JG.
