A Taunton school closing for good at the end of term is hosting a reunion for the first pupils to attend when it opened 50 years ago.

Pupils and staff at Ladymead Community School from 1960 to 1965 are getting together to relive happy memories – and judging by this photo of smiley youngsters from 1963 there will be plenty.

Organisers of the event on Wednesday, July 21 from 1.45p to 4pm are appealing for memorabilia such as photos, uniform items or newspaper cuttings for an anniversary display.

Anyone interested should drop off items at the school reception or call Peter Bourner on 01823-335417 or Nikki Fouracre on 01823-348229 for further details.

Other former pupils will be able to see the exhibition in the school library on Monday and Tuesday, July 19 and 20 from 3pm to 4pm.

Other fun events in the same week are a performance of We Will Rock You on the Monday, music and drama through the decades on Tuesday and a fashion show by GCSE textile students.

Ladymead and The St Augustine of Canterbury Schools are closing this summer and will be replaced by The Taunton Academy in September, initially based on both sites.
