Taunton St Andrews got back to winning way as they defeated local rivals Taunton Deane by 80 runs in the West of England League’s Premier One on Saturday.

Former Somerset and Deane batsman John Francis led the way, scoring 70 as Saints reached 246 all out. Leg spinner Kevin Sedgbeer’s five wickets saw the hosts dismissed for just 166.

After being asked to bat, Francis and Luke Hawker (30) put on 99 for the first wicket.

Francis then shared a stand of 43 with his former Somerset team-mate and Saints’ skipper Keith Parsons, who made 58.

South African Devon Conway took the wicket of Parsons on his way to excellent figures of 5-43 from eight overs as Saints reached 246, losing their last wicket on the final ball.

In reply, Deane looked well in the hunt after reaching 104-1, but the final nine wickets fell for just 62.

Opener Conway made 63 but received little support, although Jack Leach (21) and skipper Ali Warren (19) made contributions.

Sedgbeer bagged 5-23 from ten overs for Saints with Jacob Lintott finishing with 3-42 This Saturday, Saints are home to Bristol while Deane travel to face Bridgwater.
