DRAMA students at Minehead Middle performed Billy Elliot as the school's summer musical production.

The musical's script was adapted from the award-winning West End musical by Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall and musical supervisor Martin Koch.

The pair created the shortened version of the show exclusively for groups staging local productions as part of the Billy Youth Theatre.

The musical tells the story of an 11-year-old boy living during the miners' strikes in the 80s, who defies his father and society's conventions to follow his dream of becoming a ballet dancer.

Drama teacher Pam Wood said: “The student actors loved the message of individuality and to stand up for what you believe in.

“The production was excellent at every level, content, depth, acting, dancing and delivery.

“The first number Solidarity opened the show dramatically with the miners' community wearing their helmets and lamps with their dirty faces.”

Billy was played by Matt Legg and his dance teacher Mrs Wilkinson was played by the Aliyah Wilkinson.

Ashley Stubbs played Billy's Grandma and Rolando Charnock played Billy's best friend Michael.

Izzy Law used her booming, authoritative voice to portray Billy's father.
