CHILDREN at primary schools in Taunton have been benefitting from a scheme that aims to give them extra opportunities outside the classroom.

Schools joining the Somerset Children’s University include Norton Fitzwarren and Staplegrove primary schools.

The Children's University is a national organisation that provides seven to 14 year olds with ‘exciting and innovative learning activities and experiences outside normal school hours’.

A spokesman said: “We celebrate achievement and reward participation through our certificates. Raising children's aspirations is important to us and we aim to develop the understanding that learning can be the satellite navigation to better places in life!”

At Norton, among the activities children wanted to pursue was street dance.
