UPDATE: Elton John promoters say Taunton gig 'not in doubt'

Sir Elton John Sir Elton John

ORGANISERS of Sir Elton John's gig at Somerset County Cricket Club say it will go ahead as planned despite a health scare for the star.

MUSIC fans in Taunton had been awaiting news of Sir Elton's health after he cancelled three American shows through illness.

Sir Elton is due to play at Somerset County Cricket Club on Sunday, June 3, before playing at Buckingham Palace the following day.

The star, famous for hits like Rocket Man and Your Song, has been suffering from a respiratory infection and has been given a course of antibiotics.

He was admitted to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre on Wednesday and doctors have advised the 65-year-old to rest.

Sir Elton's publicist Fran Curtis told the BBC: "Elton developed a serious respiratory infection last weekend while performing at The Colosseum on Sunday, May 20.

"This week the condition worsened, even with medication and rest, resulting in Elton being hospitalised."

In a statement it was revealed Sir Elton has been advised to rest for 'approximately seven days'.

Three shows in Las Vegas have been cancelled.

Ben Martin, of Marshall Arts Ltd, which is promoting the event, said: "Elton is flying back to the UK next week and is very much looking forward to all his UK shows, including his first show in Taunton.
