WHAT was supposed to be an egg-citing Easter event for Wellington children has been a bit scrambled after yobs cracked a few eggs.

Children from Wellesley Park Preschool had been busy decorating paper eggs in order to set a trail around Wellington Park.

The eggs formed up a hunt for families to participate in through the holidays. People were asked to buy maps from the sports centre for £1 before playing along.

The designed Easter creations were put up on Friday morning, but on Saturday morning, people arrived at the park, ready to take part, only to find the eggs had been vandalised.

Some of the eggs were broken off their wooden sticks put in the fountain or left strewn across the park, and one had been ripped in half.

Somerset County Gazette:

The broken eggs.

Melanie Sutton, of the parent partnership for the preschool, said: “The eggs were put up for display on Friday morning ready for the egg hunt to start on Saturday. I headed down on Saturday morning with my little girl to do the egg hunt to discover they had all been pulled off their stakes and thrown around the park.

“I returned in the afternoon with some parents and some PCSOs from the school to rearrange them.

“Egg number two was broken in half, the rest are all in place but no longer mounted.”

Each egg was sponsored by a different company or group. They include: Flipout Somerset, Splat messy play, adventure babies, clerksroom barristers, homelectrix, Megan’s academy of dance, Rebecca Charlotte, Ecoprotex, Eloquent technologies and Designer travel.

The event was organised in order to send the preschool pupils on a Forest School adventure. All the completed maps were to be entered into a draw to win a chocolate hamper.

Anyone that wishes to support the event can still buy maps from the sports centre, and can still be in for the chance to win an Easter treat.

The hunt will still be running until April 17.

Miss Sutton added: “Most of the eggs are still there. Please show your support by buying a map.

“Even if you don’t crack the code, I will put all entries into a draw to win the Easter hamper.

“The children at preschool worked so hard and were so proud of what they achieved we don’t want this selfish act of vandalism to ruin what they have accomplished.”
