A CHARITY has been busy fundraising this week to support Dementia Awareness Week.

Reminiscence Learning, based in Wellington, is raising money for its new Memory Cafe which is set to open in July.

The team have been out and about in Wellington, dressed in red and yellow - the last two colours to go in the ageing eye.

Members of the pupil got involved to support the awareness week which was started by Alzheimer’s Society.

The team raised £274.33 on Saturday that will go towards the cost of the new cafe sessions that will run fortnightly.

Other events happening throughout the week include delivering a dementia awareness training session to the Wellington Brownies on Wednesday, and a singing with friends session on Thursday.

Emma Green, manager of Reminiscence Learning, said: “National Dementia Awareness week is a great opportunity to increase awareness and understanding of dementia, something that will affect one in three of us in some way.”

The charity’s activities will culminate in the building of a giant dementia awareness jigsaw puzzle at the Orchard Centre in Taunton.

Miss Green added: “The team from Reminiscence Learning will be in the Orchard Centre with the jigsaw all weekend to answer any questions and provide information.

“We are always coming up with new and innovative ways to spread the dementia awareness message and to raise funds to ensure the continuation of our community projects for people with dementia and their carers.”

The jigsaw event takes place throughout the weekend at the Orchard Shopping Centre starting from noon on Friday.
