A WELLINGTON woman has become the third woman in her family to reach 100-years-old.
Winifred Cload, who goes by middle name Mildred, celebrated her birthday on June 28, and is the third woman in her family to live to be 100 after her grandmother and great grandmother also reached the milestone age.
Mildred was the second of seven children and she was born at Dykes Farm, Higher Wrangway, where she lived until 1964.
She still has a sister, Henrietta, who lives in Hemyock, and a brother, Gerald, who lives in New Zealand, and eight nieces and nephews.
Mildred went to Sampford Arundel Village School and then to Courtland Road Girls’ School.
Her parents would walk the children to Holy Cross Church every Sunday where Mildred sang in the choir and her eldest brother, Stan, and Gerald, would work the bellows for the organ.
The centenarian said: “I used to enjoy working on our family farm, as well as the Young Farmers activities, which the Second World War put an end to.
“I also used to enjoy riding my bike.
“But what I enjoy most now is looking at the lovely scenery that can be seen from my house.”
Mildred celebrated her birthday with her sister and two of her nieces Judy Barton and Shirley Hart.
