A SCHOOL pupil from Taunton is hoping for YOUR help in her bid to buy a Taunton Deane Dragon so it can be enjoyed by families in need of some cheer.

Amy Garland, eight, is the proud designer of Rainbow, which was located just outside the Market House in Taunton town centre during this summer’s Taunton Deane Dragon Trail.

Having seen how 21 of the dragon models, including Rainbow, are heading for a charity auction at Queen’s College on October 12, Amy asked her parents if they could bid.

She said: “I really liked seeing Rainbow in the town. We visited it lots and many members of my family came to see it.

“I asked mum if we could try and buy it so it could go in my room as I wanted to make a dragon tour but mum said it couldn’t really go in my room.”

Mum Ruth added: “We talked about it going to a place where other children could enjoy it and contacted Children’s Hospice South West, who said they would love to have it at their Little Bridge House hospice, near Barnstaple.”

Now Amy and her family are raising as much money as possible towards their target of £1,000 so they can bid for Rainbow.

Having tapped up family and friends for donations, Amy is holding a sale of home-made Christmas decorations for fellow pupils at Bishop Henderson Primary School in Taunton on Tuesday from 3.15pm.

Amy said: “I hope people will come and buy the decorations – there are some on the theme of Disney’s Frozen.”

If the Garlands aren’t successful in landing Rainbow, they will bid for other dragons for the hospice at the auction.

Anyone wanting to donate to the cause can do so via www.justgiving.com/Ruth-Garland

If they were unfortunate in not buying any of the dragons, funds will go to the Mayor’s charity, fund which will be distributed to good causes in Taunton Deane.
