BECCA, a young Golden Retriever who had to give up work as a Guide Dog for the Blind, is doing her bit for the charity by going on a sponsored three-week, 280-mile trek - along with owner Alison Kent.

Three-year-old Becca had to leave her career as a qualified working guide dog when she became too stressed and couldn't cope.

But she's still off on Becca’s Trek along with Alison, of Fitzhead, on Monday – after training for the past two months.

"She's a lovely girl who unfortunately had to be withdrawn very early in her career as a working guide dog," said Alison, who is a puppy walker and helps train young dogs before they start their formal Guide Dog training.

"The training is expensive and time-consuming, so we thought we would help Guide Dogs instead by doing a sponsored walk of three National Trails in three weeks."

The pair will walk solo along the Yorkshire Wolds Way, Cleveland Way and Hadrian's Wall.

Alison is paying all travel and accommodation costs, so that every penny raised goes directly to Guide Dogs.
