STAFF at  law firm Clarke Willmott LLP are supporting the humanitarian effort in Nepal by providing funds for emergency supplies and support for the earthquake-hit region.

The firm has committed £600 to help Roger Cozens of Devon-based Greenacres Consultancy, Agricultural Development specialists, to return to Nepal to support disaster relief and humanitarian efforts.

With Clarke Willmott’s help, Roger has returned to Nepal to support disaster response agencies and help farmers re-build their livelihoods.

He will help provide food as part of the food security aid in rural areas of Dhading, Nepal.

He said: “We were devastated by the news of the earthquake and have many colleagues and friends affected.

"The impact of the earthquake on food security and agricultural livelihoods is expected to be very high.

"Farmers who miss the planting season which starts from late May onwards will be unable to harvest rice – the country’s staple food, until late 2016.

"Some of the country’s most vulnerable agricultural areas, particularly the villages in mountain and hill regions, bore the brunt of the earthquake.

"I have offered my services to agencies that I have worked with in Nepal. With generous support from Clarke Willmott I now am flying back to continue my support.”

Mark Buckerfield, Partner in the Private and Agricultural Property Department at Clarke Willmott, said: "The effects of this disaster will be felt for a very long time after the immediate rescue operation has ended.

"We are very pleased to be able to support Roger, who has the experience and practical skills needed to help people in a very remote part of the world start to rebuild their lives."

Roger had returned from his last assignment working in Nepal 10 days before the first earthquake occurred.
