THIS was the site greeting people walking into Taunton town centre this morning, Friday, October 2.

Two people obviously enjoyed a fish and chip supper outside The Brewhouse theatre, but couldn't be bothered to put the rubbish into the bin afterwards - even though it was only inches away.

Castle Hotel director Kit Chapman, of TauntonForward, which aims to clean up the town's image, has slammed the anti-social behaviour.

"It would be good it Taunton Deane Council, perhaps alongside TauntonForward, mounted an anti litter campaign.

"This is anti-social behaviour. People need educating.

"TauntonForward is trying very hard to smarten up Taunton - it's one of our campaigns.

"When people just dump fish and chip wrappers beside a bin, it's anti-social and people need to understand that. I deplore it."

Mr Chapman added that he had no objection to people enjoying fish and chips beside the river.

"After all, it's a national dish, a gastronimc treasure, and long may it be so," he said.

"Whether it's eating fish and chips on the hoof, beside the River Tone or at The castle, we all love fish and chips.

"The anti-social behaviour is the litter aspect of it."
