A SUPERFIT grandmother who beat cancer is tackling a gruelling physical challenge - on national TV.

Mandy Lee, 48, is taking part in the Tough Mums event being aired on ITV's Good Morning Britain today (Thursday).

The 5k race over lots of obstacles - based on the Tough Mudder contests - involves 100 women in eight teams, each with one celebrity.

But a year ago things didn't look so good for Many following a visit to her GP after she discovered a lump in her breast.

"I'd had it for two years but didn't do anything about it because it never entered my head that I'd ever get cancer," said Mandy, a curtain maker who lives in Galmington, Taunton.

"Just a fortnight before I'd run the London Marathon. My advice to anyone else in the same situation is to go to your GP straightaway."

She then underwent two operations, as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, with her treatment finishing in January.

She has since battled her way back to fitness with a weekly programme of two swimming sessions, a boot camp, a run and body attack class.

Ahead of today's programme, which was filmed yesterday, Mandy, who is married with two children aged 27 and 16 and has one grandson, said: "I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm a bit nervous.

"I was asked to do it as one of 100 women who have all had inspirational stories about their lives.
