A LORRY driver who caused a five vehicle crash on the M5 near Taunton has been fined and given eight penalty points.

Craig Easthope, 31, of 29 Williams Close, Milton Keynes, admitted driving without due care and attention at Taunton Magistrates Court.

The court heard that on June 13, Easthope was driving a lorry that collided with a motorcyclist and three other cars shortly after 8am on January 11 at junction 25 southbound.

The motorcyclist was left with a broken ankle and a spinal injury.

The three cars were badly damaged in the smash, and there were lengthy tailbacks along the motorway, causing long delays for motorists.

Easthope was fined 350 by magistrates, and also handed eight penalty points.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £35.
