I FELT compelled to write in after reading the headline “Deer enjoy nose at new homes” in last week’s County Gazette.
For a newspaper that is at the heart of the farming and countryside community, I thought this headline was really insensitive.
The deer do not enjoy a nose, this is where they used to live. This is their habitat.
As a resident of Monkton Heathfield it is very upsetting seeing all the surrounding fields being swallowed by new housing.
The animals have no where to go and are being forced out, including the deer.
No consideration is taken for the larger wildlife and they are literally running scared.

I have spotted them running, distraught, in the main road outside the Merry Monk, regularly at the tow path at Swing Bridge and even at St James Street.
Our house backs on to fields which have planning permission approved, which we opposed on the grounds of the wildlife, but the developers are too powerful and these concerns are overlooked.
