MORE than 800 schoolchildren will take part in one of the largest farming events for youngsters in the South-West.
Taste the Harvest, at Staple Farm, Staple Fitzpaine, on Monday and Tuesday, September 20 and 21, will show them how their daily bread is made from seed sowing to harvest.
Around 200 volunteer farmers and specialists from the farming and wildlife industry will be giving hands on advice and demonstrations.
And top chefs, including Richard Guest from Taunton's Castle Hotel, will be turning local produce into lunch for everyone at the event.
A special National Farmers Union countryside fact finding conference will be held alongside for MPs, local authority representatives and interested parties.
Highlights include a state of the art combine cutting a strip of corn and delivering the grain to onlookers; a bailer turning straw into round bales; and in one pass a giant cultivation machine clearing the ground and sowing next years' crop - all in just ten minutes.
Vintage machines and rare heavy horses will demonstrate historic methods of grain production.
Each school will sow a metre square plot with enough wheat to make a loaf of bread.
There will also be blackberry picking for a fruit crumble and harvest celebration church services.
And there are going to be thatching demonstrations, wildife on display and talks about crop pests and diseases.
