STAFF and pupils have been praised for helping make St John’s Church of England School, Wellington, a “good school”.

The key findings of an OFSTED report issued after a recent inspection are: found the school: *the quality of teaching is good; *behaviour in lessons and attitudes to learning are good. Pupils are polite and helpful; *outcomes for all pupils have improved significantly throughout the school; *children make an excellent start to their education in early years; *the school’s work to support disadvantaged pupils is effective.

Head teacher Gareth Jones said the positive report was down to a great team effort.

He said: “I would like to thank everyone for their support.

“The improvements that have taken place have only happened because of the full support of the parents, the governing body, the hard work of the children and the dedication and expertise of the staff.

“I am incredibly proud of the whole school community.

“We should also recognise that this is the next stepping stone on our school’s journey - there is still much to do and challenges ahead.

“This is an exciting time for the school and I look forward to continuing our success in the coming years.”

Head girl Ula Malinowska said: “I enjoy learning all my subjects and have made great progress since reception year.

“The teachers are encouraging and are always there to help. I am really pleased that Ofsted agree and have judged the school as good.”

Ethan Whale, head boy, who has been at St John’s since Year 4, said: “Before I came here, I was nervous about joining a new school.

“From my first visit and meeting with Mr Jones, I was made to feel welcome and settled in really quickly.

“Mr Jones and the rest of the staff work really hard to give pupils the best opportunity.

“It’s great that Ofsted agrees and we can shout about our good school.”
