The effects of Storm Barney were felt in West Somerset last night as the strong gales brought down power lines in Woodcombe, forcing the road to close and leaving a number of houses without power.
The Porlock Road at Woodcombe, near Minehead, was closed and 32 houses were left without power for much of last night while Firemen and Western Power dealt with the fallen power cables.
One local resident who witnessed the powerline come down said it was like a firework going off, and that he had never seen anything like it.
