A FIRST aider from Minehead was in the frontline of St John Ambulance team at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

More than 40 volunteers from across the South West helped keep 27,000 revellers safe, each day, treating a variety of injuries and ailments throughout the event on May 28 and 29.

Among them was Sam Parsons from Minehead, who works as a team leader for the charity’s ambulance crews, covering the whole of the South West, from its Exeter offices.

St John Ambulance’s regional events manager, Des Young said: "It was a pleasure to lead such a fantastic team of volunteers and be part of the team that helped make the Big Weekend, the safe, successful and enjoyable event that it was.’ Radio 1’s Big Weekend is the biggest free ticketed music event in Europe."

This year’s line-up at Powderham Castle, near Exeter, included Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, Jess Glynne, Craig David and surprise appearances by Paloma Faith and Take That with Sigma.
