PORLOCK Community Orchard has been at the centre of Porlock Apple Day since its inception in 2009, and wants more people to get involved.

The group has always had three major roles: looking after their orchard including its biodiversity, supporting all those people who have one or more apple trees and encouraging everybody to appreciate the importance of orchards and the wide range of apples that exist in this country.

This year the group is hoping to encourage more people to take advantage of the support the members can provide.

Whether the apple harvest is good or bad, many people can be frustrated by the thought of wasting their apples. Producing and bottling juice is easy and gives you a product which is far better than shop-bought juice with the added advantage that it can be stored and drunk up to 18 months later.

This is one of the areas in which Porlock Community Orchard can help. The group not only has apple-juicing equipment that can be hired but will also juice, bottle and pasteurise your apples so that you have a quality, safe, long-lasting product which you can store and drink throughout the winter-and it only costs 50p a bottle.

Porlock Apple Day will take place on Saturday, October 29 at the Visitor Centre.
