A SMALL group of Blue Anchor residents are teaming up to try and save the village toilets from closing.

West Somerset Council has said it cannot afford to run the toilets beyond the end of April 2017, and Old Cleeve Parish Council does not have the funds to take them over.

Blue Anchor resident Alison Hart is spearheading a small group who are aiming to find out if there is sufficient support to take over the running of the toilets.

Mrs Hart said: "We need people with management skills, help with maintenance and repairs, and good fundraisers.

"It is impossible to prepare a business plan without knowing what we are bidding for and an idea of the current costs.

Mrs Hart said it is imperative the group receives a wide range of support for the community.

"My fear is that the site will be auctioned and the toilets lost forever.

"While this would be a nice windfall in the short term, the long term effect on Blue Anchor Bay would be felt for years."

An open meeting is being held on Monday, November 7 at the Driftwood Cafe on Blue Anchor seafront at 5pm.

If unable to come, but want to raise an issue phone Alison on 01984 640817.
