WATCHET Mothers’ Club held its annual children’s charity Christmas Coffee Morning in December to raise money for The Rowan Suite at Musgrove Park Hospital and was delighted to raise £662.

This sum was in addition to £956 raised from two honesty stalls last year, giving a total of £1,618.

The Rowan suite is part of the baby loss service at Musgrove Park Hospital, it comprises of two rooms where a mother and her partner are cared for when their baby dies.

"Along with kindness, compassionate care, expertly trained bereavement midwives, a comfortable homely environment is provided," a spokesman for Watchet Mothers' Club said.

"At the end of September the family of one of our members experienced the loss of a baby.

"The parents were cared for in The Rowan Suite, where a naming ceremony was held; photos were taken; they were given a memory box and were helped by the very experience staff.

"A sofa bed is available which meant that another family member from Hampshire was able to be with them to give support during this grief-stricken time."

"The family are devastated but very grateful that this facility and such expert care were available to them so that is why The Rowan Suite was chosen to benefit from our charity Coffee Morning.

"The proceeds will be used to help refurbish the Counselling Room."

Additional donations have also been made from the honesty stall to The Watchet Community Centre towards improvements and to The Watchet Sea Scout Group towards the refurbishment of the Scout Headquarters.
