THE elusive artist behind two mysterious artworks has revealed a few clues about their identity.

Two designs have recently been posted to Minehead businesses in recent weeks following the heated debate over the town’s new ‘Bay’ logo.

The first, as reported in the Gazette, shows a defaced version of the logo which reads ‘Minehead OBay’ with a Banksy-style rat in the foreground.

The second more recent piece depicts a homeless man in front of one of the newly-painted Edwardian shelters on the seafront with a sign ‘Keep your coins, I want change’.

This week, the artist behind the works has called on people to focus on the art itself and not the person created it.

The Gazette was contacted by the artist, who refers to themself as ‘Creativeye’, who stated: “Creativeye is the alter ego of an already internationally selling artist.

“If Creativeye gave you the knowledge of its creator, that ultimately colours your opinion of, and attitude towards the creation itself.

“Look beyond the simple answer, the easy route and judge the piece on its own merit.

“Creativeye is no more, no less than a name on a piece of paper, no artist biography to influence your impressions, no collection overview to police your critique just the art laid bare.

“In the end, art is the language which speaks, not its author.”

The artist also has an Instagram account - @theallseeingcreativeye - which shows more of the artist’s work.

On one of the posts Creativeye indicates the ‘Shelter’ image will be the last late night drop before moving on to Bristol.

On Monday, March 26, the two conflicting sides – The Minehead Coastal Community Team behind the Minehead Bay logo and the Minehead Community Group backing the ‘Simply Moor To Sea logo’ – will meet at the Beach Hotel at 6pm where the Coastal Community Team will give a presentation on the Enterprising Minehead project.
