DOZENS of people took part in the Sports Leisure Show sponsored walk in aid of the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) on Sunday.

The walk, just one lap of Taunton Racecourse, venue for the show, was aimed at getting people to raise a minimum sponsorship of £10.

Over 100 people took part and its thought the amount raised could be £2,000 for SURE, which is supported by the County Gazette.

Paul Ensor, who organised the event, said: "Luckily the recent inclement weather stayed away.

"Prior to the event the ori-ginal target for each individual participant was to raise at least £10, but many people exceeded this by amazingly going into the hundreds of pounds.

"Though the grand total isn't yet known it's thought the final amount could be as much as £2,000 for SURE."

SURE event co-ordinator Roy Hole said: "I extend my thanks to everyone who took part and Taunton Race-course for providing the ideal venue for the walk."

n The amount raised since the County Gazette joined forces with SURE has jum-ped again this week.

Thanks to the £1,750 raised from the 50/50 Cycle Ride organised by the Rotary of Taunton, £10 donated by Mr Mullins and £95 from Mrs Baker, the total now stands at £21,482.

One of the big SURE fund-raising events coming up is the annual Moonraker Walk at Wimbleball Lake on Nov-ember 11.

Details and an application form for Moonraker 2006 can be downloaded from www.tauntonvalerotary.org, req-uested by e-mailing rotarymoonraker@aol.com or pic-ked up from Jas Shorney on 01823-451532.

n A whist drive organised by Dennis and Rosemary Buckingham at Oake village hall on Sunday raised £400 for SURE.
