MINEHEAD came out on the wrong end of a 4-2 score-line when they hosted Plymouth side PGSOB in their opening fixture in the Davis Wood league (Conference South).

Starting life in the third tier of the league following last season’s promotion, Minehead began brightly against a well-disciplined opposition.

With defences on top, chances for both teams were few and far between and it was no surprise when the half-time whistle blew that the game remained goal-less.

It was ten minutes into the second half when Minehead finally made the breakthrough, a teasing cross from the right-wing being deflected in for a calamitous own goal.

PGSOB rallied well and were level within five minutes through a well taken strike. With the home side visibly tiring, PGSOB took a 2-1 lead before quickly adding another to go 3-1 ahead.

With five minutes remaining Shane Heale powered in from the top of the D to give the home side renewed hope at 3-2, but in throwing men forward in search of an equaliser the Devon side hit Minehead on the counter and secured the 4-2 victory in the final minute of the game.
